Vicar-General Fr Philip Marshall

Father Philip Marshall is Vicar General of the Adelaide Archdiocese and supports Archbishop Philip Wilson in his ministry and leadership.

He was appointed pro-Vicar General in December 2009, working alongside the Vicar General Monsignor David Cappo until February 2012 when he became Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia (the administrative head of the Archdiocese).

Father Marshall also heads up the Adelaide Archdiocese's Leap Ahead program, is Director of Ministry Formation Program and also Principal of the Catholic Theological College and lectures in Church and Ministry. Before his appointment as pro-Vicar General he was parish priest at Hectorville Catholic Community and parish administrator at Tranmere.

After finishing his schooling at age 16, Father Marshall studied Arts at Adelaide University, honouring in the Classics. After graduating he moved to Port Augusta where he worked in the area of community welfare before returning to Adelaide to join the St Francis Xavier Seminary at Rostrevor.

Following his ordination Fr Marshall served in Noarlunga Downs and then Salisbury before moving to Ottawa, Canada, where he studied alongside well known Dominican theologian Father Jean-Marie Tillard.

Since returning to Adelaide, Fr Marshall has played a significant role in establishing the Hectorville Catholic Community which places strong focus on the involvement of the whole community in the life of the church and neighbourhood.

After completing his Thesis in 2011, Father Marshall graduated, receiving a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
