Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem
The Order established a Lieutenancy in South Australia in 2003 with Grand Prior His Grace Archbishop Philip Wilson KC*HS and the first Lieutenant Anthony Nemer KC*HS. The Lieutenancy Australia - South Australia has 45 members who meet regularly to share the spirituality of the Order and work toward the mission of strengthening in its members the practice of Christian life and sustaining and aiding the charitable, cultural and social works and institutions of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land. Our current Lieutenant is David Wong KC*HS.
The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem is the only lay institution of the Vatican State charged with the task of providing for the needs of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and of all the activities and initiatives to support the Christian presence in the Holy Land.
The Order originates in a Christian organisation, the Canons, established at the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem in 1099. It has religious aims and the function of protecting pilgrims to the Holy Land.
