RCIA Biennial State Conference 2015

Port Pirie 23-25 October

Our state conference entitled Conversion to Christ, had delegates from NT, NSW and Victoria as well as from both SA Dioceses. It also took on an international flavour when we were joined for the Saturday morning sessions and afternoon tour by delegates from Singapore and the US.

The three keynote speakers – Bishop Paul Bird CSsR, Bishop of Ballarat; Sharon Brewer, Parish Pastoral Support, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn; and Lorraine McCarthy, ALPHA in a Catholic Context - were all well received and made the conference a learning and challenging experience.

Saturday afternoon delegates took to a coach for a tour of the Southern Flinders with wine tasting and Devonshire tea at Blesings Garden Cellar Door and returning via the historic Pt Germein Gorge. That evening all attended Mass at St Mark’s Cathedral which was concelebrated by Bishop Greg O’Kelly, Bishop Paul Bird, Frs Anthony Kain, Francis Montero, John Fowles and Laurie Quinn and Deacons Gary Stokes and Michael Moore. A water blessing was a special feature.

The Conference Dinner at SaFAVI Cafe was a highlight of the weekend. The service and food were both fantastic and we were treated by a talk from Kuol Baak, a former refugee from Sudan and now a Town Planner in Pt Pirie.

The team in Port Pirie did an amazing job with the catering over the weekend and after lunch on Sunday we all headed home satisfied in body, mind and spirit.
