Police Checks

All staff, other workplace participants and volunteers within Catholic Education SA are required to undergo a police check through the Catholic Diocesan Police Check Unit.

Use of an existing National Police Certificate is accepted, providing it is less than 3 months old.

Those individuals who are seeking employment or voluntary work within a Catholic school requiring a police check, should contact the relevant individual school for their police check process through the Catholic Church Police Check Unit.

Individuals not currently working or volunteering in a specific Catholic school are required to complete an “Application for a National Police Certificate”, and present this to the South Australian Police for processing. A fee applies.

Application forms for a National Police Certificate are available on the South Australian Police website.

The South Australian Police will provide applicants with a National Police Certificate.
Applicants must post a CERTIFIED copy of their National Police Certificate to:

Police Check Unit
Professional Standards Office
Catholic Diocesan Centre
GPO Box 1364
ADELAIDE SA 5001

Please note the Catholic Diocesan Police Check Unit do not accept National Police Certificates that are more than 3 months old.

Certified documents will only be accepted with a stamp and signature of a Justice of the Peace, Police Officer or Commissioner for taking Affidavits.

Please ensure that you put your contact phone number and the role you will be performing and the location you will be involved with (eg. Volunteer and school name).

Applicants will also receive a police clearance letter which must be shown to a school before services can commence.

Employees are subject to ongoing police checks at regular intervals throughout their time within Catholic education.

Although all registered teachers will have a police clearance conducted by the Teacher Registration Board, it remains our policy that a police clearance is also required for any teacher new to Catholic Education SA.
