Dr. Jo Laffin lectures in church history at CTC, and has written this biography of Matthew Beovich, who was Adelaide's longest serving Archbishop during one of the most significant periods of change in the history of the Roman Catholic Church.

"Matthew Beovich was a pivotal bishop in Australia's history.  Loyal to Rome yet intensely Australian, he withstood attempts to politicise the church.  Under his leadership South Australia became the most creative centre in the Australian Catholic community.  Josephine Laffin tells his story with confident mastery of her sources, a sure knowlege of the wider sweeps of history and enviable literary skill"  Reverend Edmund Campion, Emeritus Professor of History, Catholic Institute of Sydney.

God's Wisdom or the Devil's Envy by Dr. Marie Turner

God's Wisdom or the Devil's Envy by Dr. Marie Turner

At the Australian and New Zealand Association of Theological Schools (ANZATS) annual conference held in Adelaide, July 2009, AFT Press launched Dr. Marie Turner's new book entitled God's Wisdom or the Devil's Envy.

As one of the three reviewers of Dr. Turner's book, Dr. Denis Edwards (Senior Lecturer in Theology, Flinders University) stated:  "... Marie Turner leads us through an exploration of death and life in The Wisdom of Solomon.  She uses the interpretative approach of deconstruction which she explains with beautiful clarity, and then practises with rich results. ....... Sophia is glimpsed both as inescapably responsible for death and as the icon of the Creator God who loves all things that exist".

The other two reviewers were Dr. Norman Habel, Professorial Fellow, Flinders University, and Dr. Dianne Bergant, CSA, Professor of Old Testament Studies, Catholic Theological Union, Chicago.

This book is available from our office for $30.00 (plus postage if applicable).
