Rev. Dr. Michael Trainor

The 2009 Annual Lecture entitled Styles of Leadership in the earliest Christian Communities will be given by Rev. Dr. Michael Trainor, an Adelaide Diocesan Priest and Biblical Studies Lecturer at the Catholic Theological College.

Dr. Trainor's lecture will explore how a Church - a Diocese - looking into the future and seeking ways to develop leadership, can learn much from the first generation of followers of Jesus.  A close look at Paul's households and the gospels reveals five styles of leadership, and these concern:  communion, service, witness, worship and teaching.   We shall explore each of these styles and show how they are both ancient and ever new.

Where:  Room S1, ACD Campus, 34 Lipsett Terrace, Brooklyn Park.

Cost:  $15  (free for FRIENDS) ****

Matthew Beovich: A Biography by Dr. Josephine Laffin

Great Gift Idea .... at the special launch price of $35 ....... all proceeds go to the Catholic Theological College, thanks to a generous benefactor.

Dr. Jo Laffin lectures in church history at CTC, and has written this biography of Matthew Beovich, who was Adelaide's longest serving Archbishop during one of the most significant periods of change in the history of the Roman Catholic Church.

"Matthew Beovich was a pivotal bishop in Australia's history.  Loyal to Rome yet intensely Australian, he withstood attempts to politicise the church.  Under his leadership South Australia became the most creative centre in the Australian Catholic community.  Josephine Laffin tells his story with confident mastery of her sources, a sure knowlege of the wider sweeps of history and enviable literary skill"  Reverend Edmund Campion, Emeritus Professor of History, Catholic Institute of Sydney.
